In this guide, we will explain what Ultra HDR Jpeg is and show you how to veiw your smartphone photos in full HDR quality on your computer.

What is Ultra HDR Jpeg?

Ultra HDR Jpeg is a next-generation image format introduced by Google.

  • It keeps the traditional Jpeg structure but adds support HDR (High Dynamic Range) rendering, that enables deep contrast and more vibrant color.
  • On devices that do not support HDR, it falls back to a standard SDR Jpeg and ensures backward compatibility.

Key features of Ultra HDR Jpeg

  • Uses the familiar extension .jpg .jpeg
  • Opens as a standard Jpeg in apps that do not support HDR
  • Enhanced image quality

In short, the same photo can look different depending on whether HDR is supported.
